MY WORK OVER SEVENTEEN YEARS...

HUWIE VISITS THE PLANETS
My latest picture book Huwie Visits the Planets now available in my shop.

I got this wonderful review by Mary Ester Judy of Fallen Stars Stories….
Huwie Visits The Planets is not only lovely, with its’ child-friendly tale and beautiful, fanciful illustrations. It is timely and important. It gives us a glimpse of solar system, perhaps not in planetary order (you can find that anywhere) but with a real sense of depth, inspiring the mind to wonder what really is out there in a very clear, straight-forward way. More than this, it shows our place in the solar system, the beauty of Earth as it hangs among the stars and, in a certain sense, how unique and fragile our home planet is. If Huwie were drawn as anything other than a matchstick boy, this book would not have the impact it does. Each child can easily imagine themselves as a Huwie, and so…maybe we aren’t so different after all. This is a wonderful story about the night sky, our planet and showing care, compassion and love for the Earth and everyone and everything that lives on her. Yes, Huwies’ mission is to spread love…and maybe it should be everyones’ mission. Beautifully, imaginatively illustrated and told; thoughtful, reassuring, caring and full of love. It’s all about the difference you can make, no matter how small.

DEE THE BEE STORY TRAIL MULLINGAR GREENWAY BY WESTMEATH LIBRARY SERVICES

Here is a wonderful review by Mary Esther Judy https://fallenstarstories.wordpress.com/…/one-more…/
It’s always a pleasure to receive a new picture book from Dolores Keaveney. And this one is a very special, wonderful book, indeed…rather unexpected so hot on the heels of her latest Huwie the stickboy book. In it, we return to one of her favourite subjects, BEES! But there is a little twist to this story…
In The Lions, The Bees and the Bogs by Dolores Keaveney (ISBN: 9781068799501) we are given an wonderful tale in a fable-style format. It tells the story of a majestic lion who is bored with the grasslands and woodlands of Africa is would like a new adventure. Along comes a busy bee, who offers Lion a trip across the world to Ireland. Bee sprinkles some magic pollen dust on Lions’ nose and before you know it, they’re off on a magical journey, from Africa all the way to Clonbeale More Bog. Bee shows Lion how bogs were formed and how important they are, not just to the local environment, but worldwide. And Lion begins to see how we must protect and preserve our homelands…wherever we live…

This is a delight! A tale of what is certainly an unlikely friendship, it fires the imagination and gives the young readers much to think about. The bright and beautiful illustrations offer a view of our bright and beautiful world, and the many creatures that inhabit it and the interlinking of the rich variety of landscapes and life around us. There is a sense of a joyous responsibility in its’ maintenance. And the story itself is wonderful; what a joy; what an adventure! Wise Bee has picked up much knowledge (and whimsy) in her travels across the globe; her delight in discovery is obvious. Lion is curious and observant, reveling in his journey with Bee. This trip of theirs cements a firm friendship…and maybe, just maybe they will have more adventures to come. Charming and delightful; an important environmental message clothed in a wondrous adventure.
Publication of The Lions, The Bees and the Bogs was commissioned by The Tullamore Lions Club as part of its’ sustainability agenda., which recently initiated a bog restoration project on Clonbeale More Bog. They wanted to spread the message of conservation and restoration to even the youngest among us. And I can’t think of a better way.

Huwie has a Visitor is my latest picture book. Huwie the little matchstick boy and his brother AJ love nothing more than playing football. One day a very unusual guest joins them for an extra special game. Who is this mysterious visitor? At first the boys say no, but when they change their minds, they all have an unforgettable game together. A joyful adventure with glorious illustrations, inspired by the author’s own grandchildren. Here is a wonderful review by Mary Esther Judy of Fallen Star Stories…..She says….
Dolores creates the most wonderful picture books for young children. It’s like she reaches right into their minds and imagination to give them exactly what they’re looking for. This latest in the Huwie series is something special. Her trademark bright, painterly illustrations are the perfect background for matchstick boys Huwie and AJ to dance and shine across the pages, acting as an “everyman” (or rather “every-boy”) type characters, engaging in an everyday, ordinary bit of fun, when suddenly, a curious and most unlikely situation comes into play. The surprise and excitement are palpable, even though it is expressed through black and white, linear matchstick characters. This is a story filled with wonder, joy, tremendous fun and the sense that, if you pay attention, you’ll meet the endless possibility that is all around.
